I am a Colorado native of five generations. I hold a BA in Art, Culture and Religious Studies from Marylhurst University, with studies at Naropa University. I work primarily in two mediums. My painting practice is an exploration of myth and the meaning of Home – the wild as well as the domestic. My clay work is rooted in a deeply traditional, indigenous pottery process to hand build cooking and drinking vessels. My inspiration and artistic training is found in the San Luis Valley in southern Colorado and New Mexico, and from a decades-long practice in the tradition of Japanese tea.
My values are rooted in my memories of my great-grandparents, the gardens they grew, and the people they fed. My studio is based in Bend, Oregon, where I can gather around the family table with my children and grandchildren.

La simplicidad de los trazos y su colorido están llenos de ternura. Me gustan mucho. Thanks.
I have enjoyed visiting your Blog and look forward to showing you some natural beauty to inspire your artwork when you come to New Zealand.

Hi Donna–beautiful work.
Would you be able to contact me via email?
Sue
Donna, by sheer grace today I found one of your pots in a local Goodwill here in Portland in perfect condition and immediately took it home and cleaned it. It is marked D’Orio ’12 with three slash marks, about 6″H x 6.5″W. I have a small collection of micaceous pottery, mostly very old pieces, and I am so very pleased to have found your work, and plan to cook with it. Then I found this website, and I am about to read your blogs! Thank you !!!
